February is Black History Month, and Geneva College will celebrate with a series of special events coordinated by the Black Student Organization (BSO) and the Office of Multiethnic Student Services.

“Multiethnic Student Services and the Black Student Organization seek to provide awareness for their ethnic cultures, and we encourage the community to come and take part!” says director Cindy Cook.

 

Tuesday, February 2

Campus-wide Soul Food Dinner
Alexander Hall

Celebrate the “food for the soul” that the African-American ancestors took the time to prepare and share with family. Hosted by the BSO, this year′s event also includes a program of music and ethnic dances. 

Thursday, February 11
8 p.m. 
African American Read-in Chain
Student Center, Skye Lounge
This coffee house event will feature music, poetry, readings and writings all by African-American authors. The event is hosted by the BSO. 
Thursday, February 18
8 p.m.
Movie Night
Science & Engineering, Room 022
Geneva′s Multiethnic Student Services will host this movie night focusing on African-American actors and actresses. 
Friday, February 26

Talent Show
Student Center, Skye Lounge
Students are invited to sign up and share their talents in singing, dancing, acting, music, etc. Faculty or staff members interested in judging this popular event can contact Cindy Cook at cynlcook@geneva.edu. 

The Multiethnic Student Services office serves the needs of all multiethnic students, which include our African American, Asian Pacific Islanders, Biracial, Hispanic and Native American populations. They seek to transform the lives of students by empowering them to become effective Christian leaders through the offering of programs that are affirming and supportive to the diverse racial and cultural needs of the college.
