The Geneva College community grieves with the people of Haiti in the aftermath of this week′s earthquake. Our hearts and prayers go out to the entire nation and in particular to our alumni and students who are still awaiting word on friends and family members.

"This is devastating," says Professor of Youth Ministries Doug Bradbury, who has led trips to Haiti for the past 20 years. "We can't begin to comprehend the level of pain and loss that the Haitian people are experiencing right now."

Bradbury is the founder of Haiti H2O, an organization that works directly with Haitian partners to provide holistic development. Geneva′s campus will be collecting donations for Haiti H2O, which will then distribute these funds to organizations already established in Haiti. These include Partners in Health, Oxfam's Latin America emergency response team, Grassroots International, Action Aid and Doctors Without Borders.

"Our hope is that this will be an opportunity to rebuild a country, and that people will be praying about how to make Haiti part of their long-term service," he says. "Let′s not underestimate the power of prayer: that the people of Haiti would be able to experience God′s mercy and grace through the aid received, and that this overwhelming outpouring from nations and people would be a strong reminder that God has not forgotten them."
