Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s women had to wait an extra day to travel to Chatham in search of their first road victory of the season. As it turned out, the Golden Tornadoes and head coach Renee Drake would have waited as long as it took since they managed to win for the first time away from Beaver Falls this season. Geneva held off a late Chatham charge to secure a 63-60 victory that pushed its overall record to 8-14, including a 1-10 record on the road. "It has been a long time in coming, but I was very pleased with the 40 minute effort," said Drake. "We got off to a good start and were able to maintain some momentum for most of the night."

The victory forced a split of the season series and got Geneva some revenge after it suffered a heart wrenching overtime loss to Chatham at Metheny Fieldhouse in January. On this night, the Golden Tornadoes scored the game′s first four points but watched Chatham respond with 12 of the next 14 points to open up a six point lead. Geneva quickly took back the momentum and never trailed again. The biggest lead of the night came four minutes into the second half when Geneva opened up a 40-28 advantage. Late in the game, the Golden Tornadoes came up with a big defensive stop in the final moments and dodged a desperation shot at the buzzer to get the victory. "Big wins always seem to be centered on solid defense and tonight was no exception," said Drake. We made shots when we had to but got great defense all night."

The offense was led by Alyse Scarsella′s 16 points. Teammate Renee Rawding added 11 points and Christine Carugati came off the bench to score ten points.

Geneva will look to build off this momentum on Saturday when Grove City comes calling to Metheny Fieldhouse. Geneva will look for another season split after falling to the Wolverines in overtime earlier this year.
