Berea, OH - Interim track and field coach Brian Yowler knows he has a young team. On Friday evening, the first year coach took his youthful group to compete at Baldwin-Wallace College. Geneva brought seven women athletes to compete which included seven ladies that had never competed for Geneva prior to last night.

Despite the inexperience, the Golden Tornadoes posted some impressive performances. At the top of the list was a pair of men that punched a ticket to the NCCAA national meet with qualifying performances. Stephen Polite added to his national meet resume with a 20′3" effort in the long jump. Polite had qualified in the 55 meter dash and triple jump earlier in the season. Teammate Nick Edinger added his name to the national qualifying list with a 16:25 finish in the 5K race.

Top finishers on the women′s side included Shannon Rech′s 5th place overall finish in the 3K race with a time of 11:29. Julia Urbanski was 8th in the 800 meter event with a mark of 2:33.

In men′s action, Polite was seventh in the long jump with his national qualifying distance while Shaka Sydnor posted a distance of 19′8" which was good enough for eighth place. Freshman Tyler French was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 42′6".

All that remains for the indoor track and field team is the NCCAA national meet next Saturday at Cedarville University. A total of nine student-athletes will be making the trip to represent the Golden Tornadoes on the national stage.
