On January 30, 2010, Geneva College invited its top academic applicants to compete for the Presidential, C.M. Lee and Dean′s Scholarships. Students were selected based on their superior SAT/ACT scores and exceptional academic performance in high school. Of the 88 students who attended, 30 will be selected for scholarships.

The competition consisted of a written essay and a personal interview with members of Geneva′s faculty and staff. After completing their essays and interviews, students had the opportunity to mingle with current students and talk to college admissions counselors.

After the competition, students and their parents attended a luncheon with participating faculty, staff and Geneva College students. Dr. Melinda Stephens, dean of academic programs, gave a presentation on Geneva′s honors program, and Dr. Jeff Cole, professor of history, introduced students to the college′s new Semester in Rome study-abroad program.

"With this being the first event of its kind for Geneva, I believe the day was a very successful one," says Dave Layton, dean of undergraduate enrollment. "We are impressed by the passion and commitment these students have for learning, and we look forward to the contributions they will bring to the academic community at Geneva."

Scholarship winners will be announced on March 1, 2010.
