Kissimmee, FL - The Geneva College softball team didn′t get to practice once outside before traveling to Florida this week. Apparently the Golden Tornadoes′ had stored some energy as they scored 18 runs in picking up a pair of victories to open the new campaign. Geneva defeated Mt. St. Joseph 11-6 before rallying to beat Catholic University 7-6.

The Golden Tornadoes jumped out early in game one when Martha Adams scored on an Adriane Blake ground out. Three more runs came across the plate in the second inning highlighted Leah Prisuta fielder′s choice and an Adams base hit. Leanne Abate slashed a three-run double in the third inning to break the game open. Abate finished the doubleheader with a perfect 5-5 day at the plate. Julie DiLonardo allowed just one base runner in four innings of work while striking out eight batters. Geneva watched Mt. St. Joseph crawl closer with a five run fifth inning but an RBI single from Samantha Michetti and a double from Abate put the game away.

In the night cap, Geneva fell behind 2-0 in the first, but Prisuta hit a solo homer to cut the lead in half. Three Catholic University errors helped three more runs in the second inning. Trailing 6-5 into the bottom of the sixth, Geneva got the tying run on a throwing error and took the lead on a Lexi Svingos sacrifice fly.

Geneva will face Ursinus and Greensboro on Tuesday as the Golden Tornadoes continue their 12-game, 8 day run in Florida.
