Head Baseball Coach, Alan Sumner, becomines the first 500 win coach in school history.Ft. Pierce, FL – The off season can seem like an eternity for most college baseball teams through the fall and winter months. For Geneva College and head coach Alan Sumner the 2010 campaign could not come soon enough with only two victories needed to become the first 500 win coach in school history. It didn't take Sumner and the Golden Tornadoes long to get those wins as they swept Martin Luther University on Monday by scores of 9-5 and 7-3. The first game last ten innings before Geneva broke the game open.

Sumner, who is beginning his 22nd year at the helm, played for the Golden Tornadoes in the mid-1980′s and took over the program full time in the spring of 1990. He watched his alma mater take care of business on Monday with sophomore Mike Trn picking up the victory in relief. Phill Shallenberger picked up three hits, while Joe Jurinko and Mike Suluva had a pair of hits each in the opening game victory.

Sulava took the mound in the night cap and pitched his way to a 7-3 victory. Joe Jurinko was the only Geneva player to pick up multiple hits in game two.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back to work on Tuesday morning with a doubleheader with Northwestern University.
