Oakland City, IN - If you ask Geneva College head men′s basketball coach who the best team at the NCCAA national tournament is this year he would have a quick answer. "I believe we just played the best team at this tournament," said Santarsiero. The coach was referring to Mid-Continent University after his Geneva team dropped a 79-57 decision to the #2 seed at the NCCAA national tournament. Geneva dropped to 16-12 on the season while Mid-Continent improved 23-12.
Geneva shot the ball extremely well in the first 20 minutes at a 63% clip and went bucket for bucket with Mid-Continent with the teams going to the locker room locked at 40-40. Five minutes into the second half Geneva trailed by nine points and six minutes later the lead had increased to 15 points at 63-48.
Rich Colick continued his incredible post-season string with 25 points on 9-13 shooting and a team best eight rebounds. The only other Geneva player in double figures was Bryan Hill with 12 points on 4-7 from outside the arc.
"We played very well and shot great in the first half," said Santarsiero. "They are a very good basketball team and we could not continue the hot shooting in the second half and they took advantage."
Geneva will have to face the #3 seed in Mid-American Nazarene on Friday in a consolation round game at 1 pm. Mid-American dropped a 71-60 decision to Northwestern on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes will close out their season on Saturday with a chance to finish 5th on the national stage.
