Pittsburgh, PA - The Geneva College softball finally ended a 25 inning scoreless drought in the first of two games against Point Park on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 5-1 decision to the Pioneers before finding their offensive in the night cap with a 10-8 extra inning victory. Geneva finished the day with an overall record of 4-8 after the first action up north this season.

Julie DiLonardo got the loss in game one after pitching a solid game. Trailing 1-0 into the bottom of the fifth, Geneva yielded four runs on a grand slam that broke the game open. The Golden Tornadoes broke the shut-out in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of DiLonardo. Geneva managed six hits in game one but went 0-10 with runners in scoring position.

Game two was a different offensive story. On the mound, Ariel Lilly gave Geneva a 5-2 lead into the fifth inning before the Pioneers exploded for six runs to take a three-run advantage. The Golden Tornadoes bounced right back to tie the game with three in the sixth before winning the contest with a pair in the top of the eighth. DiLonardo opened the scoring with her first home run of the season. Adriane Blake launched a three-run homer in the third to put Geneva back on top. Trailing 8-6 in the sixth, Martha Adams lined a two-run double to fence to tie the game. Blake struck again in the eighth inning with a two-run game winning single that proved to be the difference. DiLonardo picked up the victory with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Geneva will travel to Hiram on Saturday and will open its home schedule on March 27th against Ursuline.
