Beaver Falls, PA - Fresh off an impressive come from behind victory on Wednesday night, the Geneva College baseball team saw the tables turned against it on Friday as Bethany College rallied from five runs down in the final innings to escape Beaver Falls with a 10-8 decision. The loss snapped Geneva′s five game winning streak and moved its overall record to 8-5 on the season.

The Golden Tornadoes gained control of the game early with a run in the bottom of the first and four more in the third. Joe Jurinko supplied a sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI single in the third as part of a five hit frame including four straight hits in the inning. Joe Jurinko struck again in the fifth with a solo homer that increased Geneva′s lead to 6-1 which is the way it stayed until the top of the seventh. Mike Trn went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs while allowing six hits. Trn left the game with the lead but the Geneva bullpen could not hold on late in the game. Bethany scored five runs in the seventh to tie the game before the Golden Tornadoes responded with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning. Jon Bushmire and Justin Acosta launched back to back homers in the seventh to regain the lead.

The lead was short-lived as the Bison plated four more runs in the top of the eighth to take a lead they would never relinquish. The Golden Tornadoes banged out 12 hits in the loss including multiple hit performances from Phil Shallenberger, Adam Scheiderer, Joe Jurinko, Jon Bushmire and Joel Dille.

The Golden Tornadoes will quickly get a chance for some revenge as they will travel to West Virginia on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Bison beginning at 1 pm. Geneva returns to 33rd Street Field on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Washington & Jefferson.
