Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College junior shortstop Adriane Blake hit a pair of two-run homers on Saturday and each played significant role in victories for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva swept a doubleheader from Ursuline College by scores of 8-7 and 5-3 with the nightcap going eight innings before Blake struck for the second time on the day. The sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 8-10 as it picked up a pair wins in the home opener.

A pitcher′s duel in game one quickly turned into a slugfest late in the game. With Geneva trailing 1-0 into the bottom of the fifth, Lori Deem launched her first collegiate home run with a runner aboard to give Geneva a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Lexi Svingos knocked in a pair with a base hit and another scored on a throwing error. Geneva′s 5-1 lead did not last long as Ursuline responded with six runs of its own in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Trailing by two into the bottom of the seventh, Blake hit a two-run homer to tie the game. Later in the inning, Leanne Abate′s sacrifice fly plated pinch runner Toni D′Urzo with the game winner. Julie DiLonardo went the distance to pick up her sixth victory of the season.

The Golden Tornadoes enjoyed another walk-off winner in the night cap. This time, Blake provided the fireworks with a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Her fourth home run of the season capped a perfect 4-4 day for the junior shortstop. Her bunt single in the first scored Martha Adams with Geneva′s first run. Blake knocked in Leah Prisuta with a base hit in the third inning that put Geneva up 2-1. Blake′s third hit of the game scored Adams to tie the game in the fifth which set the stage for her eighth inning heroics.

Ariel Lilly started for Geneva and went five innings allowing just two earned runs. Adams pitched innings six and seven before DiLonardo came on in the eighth to get her second victory of the day.

The Golden Tornadoes enjoy a week off before opening PAC play next Saturday with a doubleheader at Bethany College. Geneva returns home on April 6th to take on Chatham College.
