Geneva Drops Pair at W & J

Washington, PA - What looked to be an impressive pitching duel for much of the game turned one-sided quickly as Geneva watched Washington & Jefferson break open game one of its doubleheader and pull away by the score of 12-1. The night cap didn′t see a Geneva turnaround as the Golden Tornadoes dropped game two by the count of 10-2 which pushed the current losing skid to five games. Geneva fell to 8-9 on the season as W & J improved to 7-4 following the sweep.

Mike Trn seemed to be cruising along in game one allowing just one run through the first four innings. Geneva scored the game′s first run in the first inning on Justin Acosta′s fielder′s choice. With the game tied at one into the fifth, the wheels fell off as the President′s posted 11 runs in the fifth inning on seven hits. Seven of the runs in the fifth were charged to Trn who left after 4 1/3 innings and was dealt his first loss of the season. Geneva′s offense managed just three hits in game one while allowing eight for W & J.

The night cap saw W & J score four runs in the second and five more in the fourth to open a 9-0 lead. Geneva did get a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run single from Mike Suluva. Geneva′s offense, however, was again kept in check with only two base hits in game two. Doug Sanson got the loss with three innings of work allowing six earned runs.

Geneva will look to put an end to its losing slide over the weekend as it heads south for a three-game series with Thomas More beginning with a single game on Friday afternoon. Geneva will return to 33rd Street Field next Wednesday looking for some revenge in a single game against Washington & Jefferson.
