Geneva College Golden Tornado SoftballBeaver Falls, PA – For the past seven weeks, the Geneva College baseball and softball teams have been stuck indoors to prepare for the 2010 season. The curtain will be lifted on the new season beginning next Monday and never has it been such a necessity for these teams to head to a warmer climate to get the season started. Geneva′s softball team will jump on the bus Friday evening and the baseball team will take to the air on Saturday as both teams will arrive in Florida looking for some dirt and grass.

The annual trek to Florida has become something that most college teams must do to escape the cold temperatures of the north. In the case of 2010, it has been record snowfalls that have forced Geneva′s teams to train inside of Metheny Fieldhouse for seven weeks.

The baseball team will open an eight-game Florida schedule on Monday with a doubleheader against Martin Luther College in Ft. Pierce. Anyone interested in following the action of the baseball team can view livestats by clicking here or can listen by clicking here. The softball team will be playing a 12-game schedule beginning with games against Mt. St. Joseph and Catholic on Monday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee. Each team will return to Beaver Falls in time for classes to resume on Tuesday, March 16.

Geneva College Golden Tornado BaseballWhile the objective for both teams is to get the season started with games and practices during the 10-day excursion, there is also time built in for some fun with off days scheduled for both teams. In fact, both teams participated in the Disney “Work a day, get a day” program. On separate days, the baseball and softball teams spent a few hours volunteering at Habitat for Humanity in Beaver Falls. For those efforts, each player was given a one-day pass for a Disney Theme Park. So you can be sure that at least one off day during the spring trip will be spent with Mickey and friends.
