Crestview Hills, KY - It was a long night for the Geneva baseball team after suffering a terrible loss at the hands of Thomas More on Friday. Less than 24 hours later, the Golden Tornadoes could not stop the bleeding and dropped a doubleheader to the Saints by scores of 11-4 and 11-2. The doubleheader sweep moved Geneva′s losing streak to eight straight and dropped its overall record to 8-12.

It was once again the big innings that proved to be the downfall for the Golden Tornadoes. In game one, Geneva tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning on a Ben Detrow base hit. Detrow accounted for two of Geneva′s six hits in game one. Geneva put another tally on the board in the top of the fourth to take its only lead of the game. The Saints posted seven runs in the bottom of the seventh and knocked out starter Matt Baer in the process. Baer went 3.2 innings and allowed seven earned runs while striking out three batters. Mike Sulava also picked up a pair of hits in the game one loss.

The Golden Tornadoes jumped on top with a run in the top of the first in game two after Jon Jurinko scored having led off the game with a base hit. Again, the lead was short-lived as Thomas More put another seven spot on the board in the bottom of the first. Mike Trn, Geneva′s starter, went all six innings in a losing cause for the Golden Tornadoes but also managed to save some bullpen arms in the process. The Golden Tornadoes had just three hits in the game two loss.

Geneva will look to turn its fortunes around next week as it returns home on Wednesday to battle Washington & Jefferson in a single game at 3 pm.
