Beaver Falls, PA - After dropping game one of Saturday′s doubleheader 8-1 to Saint Vincent, the Geneva College baseball team saw its losing streak reach ten straight. The Golden Tornadoes got the monkey off their backs in the night cap with a 6-5 victory over the Bearcats. With the split, Geneva moved to 9-14 on the season as Saint Vincent moved to 12-8.

Geneva put eight hits on the board in game one but could not generate a run until Noah Medich′s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh helped avoid the shut-out. Saint Vincent scored four runs in the first and plated four more in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Doug Sanson was impressive in relief as he held the Bearcats off the board for the final four innings. Sanson went 4.1 innings and allowed just one hit in his outing. Jon Jurinko had three hits in game one with teammate Phil Shallenberger coming up with a pair of knocks.

It was Geneva that jumped in front in game two with two in the first and three more in the second inning. Geneva got runs on a balk and a wild pitch in the first and a two run Shallenberger single in the second highlighted that rally. Leading 6-2, Geneva watched Saint Vincent pull within a run with three in the fifth, but the pitching came up big in the final two innings. Matt Baer picked up the win with six strong innings and Shallenberger got his second save of the year with a scoreless seventh. Geneva managed six hits in game two with two coming off of Shallenberger′s bat.

Geneva and Saint Vincent will make-up Friday′s rain out on Monday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Friday to begin a three-game series with Grove City College.
