Washington, PA - Geneva′s softball team finally put an end to its streak of doubleheader splits with a sweep over Westminster on Saturday. On Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes returned to their splitting ways with a doubleheader split against Washington & Jefferson. After coming from behind for a 5-4 victory in game one, the Golden Tornadoes dropped game two by the score of 8-3. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 13-13 for the season.

Geneva opened the scoring in game one with a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Leah Prisuta. After W & J scored four unearned runs in the third inning, the Golden Tornadoes managed to chip their way back into the game.

Adriane Blake singled in a run in the fifth and Samantha Bautista hit a solo homer in the sixth to pull Geneva to within a run. In the top of the seventh, Geneva got a sacrifice fly from Lexi Svingos to tie the game and then Blake scored on a W & J error to make the difference in the game. Julie DiLonardo picked up the complete game victory by allowing four unearned runs. She scattered six hits and struck out six to earn her 12th victory of the year.

W & J jumped out to the lead in game two with a pair of first inning runs. Blake drove in Martha Adams to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first and Leanne Abate′s second inning single tied the game. The Presidents broke the game open with three runs in the third and three more in the fifth inning. Geneva′s offense had eight singles in the loss including three from Adriane Blake.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back to work on Saturday when they host Thomas More in a doubleheader at 1 pm.
