Grove City, PA - The Geneva College baseball team gave Grove City a little taste of the medicine that the Golden Tornadoes have tasted the last few weeks. Geneva posted 11 first inning runs on the board in game two to help salvage a split against the Wolverines. Geneva dropped the first game 5-1 but picked up a 17-6 victory in the night cap to move its overall record to 10-17.
Game one featured Grove City scoring all five of its runs in the first two innings. The Wolverines posted four first inning runs to take a lead that would stand up after the Golden Tornadoes managed to plate just a single run in the seventh inning. Geneva had five hits in game one but left five runners on base. The only run of the game scored on a Joel Dille ground out in the final frame. Doug Sanson went the distance for Geneva and settled down after a rough first inning. For the game he allowed seven hits but only one after the third inning. He struck out five and walked three in six innings of work.
Geneva turned the tables on Grove City in game two as 11 of the first 12 Geneva batters scored a run. Seven singles and a pair of walks extended the rally. Jon Bushmire and Mike Suluva each had two run singles in the first inning. Justin Acosta had a run scoring double in the fifth to extend the Geneva lead. Matt Baer went 6.1 innings to earn his third victory of the season. He struck out five in the victory before Dylan Viehdorfer came on in the seventh to record the final two outs of the game. Geneva′s offense broke out with 16 hits including multiple hit efforts from Phil Shallenberger, Adam Scheiderer, Just Acosta, Jon Bushmire and Joel Dille.
The Golden Tornadoes will look to take the rubber game on Monday afternoon as the Wolverines visit 33rd Street for a single game at 3 pm.
