Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College softball team continued to roll on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep over Penn State Beaver by scores of 9-1 and 11-3 with both games being shortened to six innings because of the mercy rule. Geneva has won six games in a row and improved to 19-13 on the season.
Julie DiLonardo continued her dominance in the circle in game one with her 12th consecutive victory. DiLonardo improved to 17-7 on the season by allowing just one unearned run. She struck out nine in the victory and allowed just four hits. Geneva′s offense banged out ten hits including multiple hit efforts from Martha Adams and Adriane Blake. An error and a Lori Deem sacrifice fly plated Geneva′s first two runs in the second inning. In the third, Blake and Leanne Abate each came through with run scoring singles. Blake knocked in two more with a single in the fourth and then the junior shortstop ended the game with an RBI single in the sixth. She finished the game with a four runs batted in.
Ariel Lilly got her first victory of the season in game two with a complete game win. Lilly went six innings and allowed three runs while striking out three. Trailing 2-1 in the third inning, Samantha Bautista blasted a two-run homer, her second dinger of the season, give Geneva a lead it would never relinquish. Leanne Abate and Leah Prisuta each had run scoring hits later in the inning to cap a five run frame. Kara Zimmerman′s two run single in the fifth and an Adriane Blake three-run homer in the sixth capped off the six inning mercy rule victory. Abate was a perfect 3-3 in the night cap highlighting a 12-hit attack by the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva will try to keep rolling on Saturday when it visits Saint Vincent College for a 1 pm doubleheader. Next week, the Golden Tornadoes travel to Thiel before closing out the regular season as home on May 1st with a doubleheader against Waynesburg University.
