Geneva College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Distinguished Service Award: Andrew Bernard ′83, Larry Hardesty ′90, Carolyn (Metcalfe ′62) Mollenkopf, Dr. John "Jack" E. Pinkerton ′60 (posthumously) and President Kenneth A. Smith ′80. They will be honored at the Alumni Dinner on Saturday, April 17, 5:30 p.m., as part of Geneva′s Founders Day celebration.

Andrew Bernard graduated from Geneva College in 1983 with a degree in accounting. He went on to earn his master′s degree in taxation at Georgetown University. For the past 25 years, Mr. Bernard has served as an international tax partner with Ernst and Young LLP. He is a member of the Geneva College Board of Trustees, in addition to being a trustee for his home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian.

After graduating from Geneva College in 1990 with a business degree, Larry Hardesty joined the college′s staff in 1994. He served as director of activities, director of housing, professor of undergraduate leadership, director of campus ministries and associate dean of student development. Mr. Hardesty also earned his master′s in leadership studies from Geneva. He is now vice president for student life and learning at Grove City College.

Carolyn (Metcalfe) Mollenkopf graduated from Geneva in 1962 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary education. She also holds degrees from Loyola University of Maryland, Towson University and a certificate from John Hopkins University. Mrs. Mollenkopf served for 33 years as an educator for Baltimore County Public Schools. She also served as a librarian, and she has served in the church for many years in a variety of capacities.

Jack Pinkerton graduated from Geneva College in 1960 with a degree in physics. He went on to receive his master′s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin and his doctorate at the University of South Carolina. He was professor of electrical engineering and served the Geneva College community for over four decades. Dr. Pinkerton passed away in 2009.

Since his inauguration in 2004, President Ken Smith has served as a faithful and effective leader for Geneva College. He graduated from Geneva in 1980 with a degree in business administration, then went on to earn his master′s in economic and social development from the University of Pittsburgh and his Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Maryland. He has worked as an international development management consultant and as a faculty member at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.
