Beaver Falls, PA - It was the final day in a Geneva College baseball uniform for five seniors and the Golden Tornadoes were sent off in style with a pair of victories over Thiel College. Geneva upended the Tomcats by scores of 4-1 and 8-6 to finish the 2010 campaign with an overall record of 16-20. Just one day after surrendering 23 runs to Thiel, Geneva′s senior pitching duo of Phil Shallenberger and Dylan Viehdorfer ended their careers in style by containing the Tomcats at the plate.

Shallenberger was masterful in game one by allowing just one run on six hits in going the distance. He struck out three en route to his second victory of the season. Geneva got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single from senior Joel Dille. The Golden Tornadoes got all the insurance they would need with a three run fifth inning. Ben Detrow came up with an RBI single followed by a two-run double from Shallenberger as he helped his own cause at the plate. Geneva had just six hits in game one but it was enough as Shallenberger made it stand up.

Viehdorfer pitched into the fifth inning and allowed five earned runs but came away victorious as Mike Trn came on to earn his first save of the year by allowing just one run over the final three innings of play. Geneva opened up a 5-0 lead with three in the first and two in the second only to see Thiel post a five-spot in the third inning to tie the game. Adam Scheiderer′s two-run double in the first got Geneva going and then RBI singles from Jon Jurinko and Scheiderer in the second extended the lead. Geneva added three unearned runs in the final couple of innings to take a lead it would never surrender. Scheiderer ended the game with three hits as he led Geneva′s ten hit attack in the season finale.
