Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College softball team needed several things to fall into place on Saturday to stay alive for an NCCAA post-season berth. The most important element was taking two from Waynesburg University. That piece of the puzzle came together as the Golden Tornadoes defeated Waynesburg by scores of 1-0 and 9-1. Geneva improved to 22-16 on the season and will welcome Thiel College to Geneva on Monday for a doubleheader that will ultimately decide the post-season fate.

Julie DiLonardo continued her masterful work in the circle with victories in both ends of the doubleheader. Game one was dominated by both pitchers as the Golden Tornadoes managed to scrape across the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. DiLonardo went the distance and allowed just four hits while striking out six in the process. At the plate, Geneva managed only two hits in the victory but where able to maximize its chance in the bottom of the seventh. Adriane Blake led off with an infield hit and advanced to second and third on successive wild pitches. Julie DiLonardo′s sacrifice fly to right field scored the game′s only run.

DiLonardo had things a bit easier in game two as she went four innings to earn her 20th victory of the season and getting to within just one win of Geneva′s single season record. She surrendered just one hit over four innings and struck out four batters. Ariel Lilly took care of the final two innings in allowing just one unearned run in the bottom of the sixth. The offense came alive in game two 14 hits. Sam Bautista′s RBI single in the third opened the scoring and was followed by a Blake RBI triple and a run scoring single from Lexi Svingos. Svingos had a two-run single to cap a three run fourth inning. Two more Geneva runs in the sixth inning put an end to the game because of the eight-run mercy rule.

Geneva will host Thiel College on Monday at 2 pm as the Golden Tornadoes must win a pair of games to qualify for a potential at-large bid to the NCCAA National Tournament in West Palm Beach, Fl beginning on May 13th.
