Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College softball team needed to win a pair of games on Monday to insure a chance at an at-large bid to the NCCAA national tournament. The Golden Tornadoes took care of business in game one with a 4-2 victory over Thiel College. Game two took ten innings to decide a winner but the Golden Tornadoes came up on the short end of a 7-4 decision. Geneva finished the regular season with an overall record of 23-17 falling just short of the .600 winning percentage needed to accept an at-large bid to the NCCAA national tournament.

Julie DiLonardo picked up her record tying 21st victory in game one as she went the distance and allowed five hits and two earned runs to push her record to 21-9 on the season. Geneva jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning on four consecutive extra base hits to open the game. Martha Adams opened the game with a double that was followed by a Samantha Bautista triple. Back to back RBI doubles from Adriane Blake and Lexi Svingos gave Geneva a 3-0 lead. Adams connected on a solo homer in the fourth to extend Geneva′s lead as DiLonardo did the rest.

Geneva opened the scoring in game two on an RBI single from Svingos that scored Blake in the bottom of the first inning. Thiel posted three unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead that held up until the bottom of the seventh. Leanne Abate connected on a dramatic two-out, three-run homer to tie the game at 4-4 in the final frame. Neither team could score until Thiel posted three runs in the top of the tenth to get the victory. DiLonardo was the hard luck loser after pitching ten more innings in the night cap and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. It was five Geneva errors that turned out to be the difference. Geneva had nine hits in the game two loss with Svingos, Abate, DiLonardo and Lori Deem each coming up with a pair.
