Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College baseball team took a while to get going once it returned to Beaver Falls from Florida this spring. But the offense did get on track thanks to the contributions of a trio of players that were honored this week with post-season awards from both the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) and the Presidents′ Athletic Association. Seniors Phil Shallenberger and Justin Acosta, along with junior Jon Jurinko were each recognized with PAC coach′s honors and NCCAA All-East Region first team selections.

Because Geneva is still a provisional member of Division III, its players are unable to receive All-Conference honors. The equivalent to all-conference recognition is coach′s honors handed out to those players that would have achieved All-Conference status. Shallenberger, Acosta and Jurinko certainly fit the bill with outstanding offensive numbers from this past fall.

Acosta led the Golden Tornadoes with his .427 batting average with 44 hits in 103 at-bats. His numbers exploded in the final week of the season by going 9 for his last 15. He also picked up 27 RBI′s with three homers. Shallenberger hit .413 with a team best 52 hits and 42 runs scored. He also led the Golden Tornadoes with 12 stolen bases. Jurinko hit .402 with 37 runs scored and 26 RBI′s in his junior campaign.
