The Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers has cited Charles J. Lawrence ′76 as its 2010 Engineering Manager of the Year.  The award was presented to at the Section′s annual Spring Social and Dinner Dance on May 14.

Lawrence is the chief engineer and director of engineering for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, a position he has held for the past nine years.  He has been with the Authority for 25 years. He oversees a 15 million dollar capital program and a 4 million dollar operating budget to service 10 port facilities owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  In his career at the Authority, he has been in lead roles in numerous projects which enhance the competitiveness of our region′s port and promote the safe handling of goods and cargo.

Lawrence received his bachelor′s degree in civil engineering from Geneva College in 1976 and recently earned a master′s in non-profit administration from Eastern University.  He and his wife, Diane, have devoted considerable time and effort to CURE International, a Christian agency that builds and operates hospitals for disabled children in developing countries, and he has been able to use his engineering talents there. The Lawrences have four daughters and reside in Limerick, Pennsylvania.
