From Left to Right: Chris McDonnal, Daniel Allison, and Zachary Jensen

Choosing a major, balancing classes, making new friends – the college transition can be tough. But right now, Zachary Jenson is just focused on finding the money to get there.

The 22-year-old transfer student from Frederick, Maryland was welcomed into the family of Happy and Nancy Allison when he encountered hard economic times. An aspiring teacher, Zachary, along with the Allison′s youngest son, Daniel, has chosen to enroll at Geneva College for the 2010-11 school year. Both have been accepted and have received partial scholarships, but Zachary doesn′t have the money needed for tuition, room and board. Since Zachary has no support outside of the Allison family, the Allisons have turned to unorthodox methods of helping Zachary to finance his education.

The Allisons are planning a concert as a way to raise money for the Zachary Jensen Educational Fund. The event will be Saturday, June 12 from 6-9 p.m. at New Life Foursquare Church in Frederick, Maryland. There will be music (including a concert pianist, violinist and hammered dulcimer player, messianic dancers, art exhibits, craft sale and flea market. People will also have the opportunity to tell their stories of faith and overcoming life′s obstacles.

Nothing is impossible with God, the Allisons have told Zachary. They′ve been amazed as the community in Frederick has joined in the planning and support of the event. Nancy Allison says, “The name of Geneva College has become very familiar to the people of Frederick County in the past few weeks, because of Zach.”

Upon receiving news on Thursday afternoon of the fundraising event just two days away, a group of staff members gathered to pray for the success of the fundraiser, work of the planners, and the fulfillment of Zach′s desire to attend Geneva and prepare for his calling as a teacher.

“The story of Zach is a powerful one,” notes Dean of Enrollment Dave Layton. “And the reality is, there are many students who struggle to pull together the financial resources to attend college – and that includes Geneva. When alumni and friends provide scholarships and donations, they help to make a life-changing, Christ-centered education at Geneva possible for students like Zachary. The impact is tremendous.”

The Allison family is asking for prayer for God′s will to be accomplished through this weekend′s concert. For information about the event for the Zachary Jensen Educational Fund, call 301-865-0788.
