Amy Solman is the new director for the Counseling Center.Geneva College names Amy Solman, LPC, CAC, MA as the new director of the Counseling Center. Solman comes to Geneva from ARC (Addiction Recovery Center) Manor, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located in Kittanning, Pa. where she most recently served as a Senior Treatment Specialist.

At the same time, Geneva announces a major change in the organization of the counseling program. Instead of being a contracted service under which students are responsible for payment, the director is now a Geneva employee, and so there is no fee associated with the services of Counseling Center.

Solman spent 16 years in counseling and rehabilitation for ARC Manor. She held various positions at this agency with responsibilities including conducting assessments, crisis intervention, group counseling, and individual counseling in the residential, partial and intensive outpatient programs.

In addition, Solman has worked as a contracted therapist for Northway Counseling Services through Northway Christian Community Church in Wexford, Pa. from 2004 to 2009. She provided professional Christian counseling services for individuals, groups, families and couples. She specialized in the areas of drug/alcohol addiction, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, self- injury and borderline personality disorders. She also provided training and education to local churches and community groups. She is a gifted trainer, having conducted seminars at her place of employment and various training conferences.

The mission of the Geneva College Counseling Center is to provide quality behavioral health services to any individual or group from the college. All counseling will be conducted in a manner consistent with the Christian philosophy of Geneva College. Solman says her personal mission and vision for the Counseling Center is to provide “professional and effective Christian psychotherapeutic services to improve the mental, emotional and spiritual health of current students, and thus better equip them for their work of being servant-leaders and advancing the kingdom of Christ”.

The Geneva College Counseling Center offers the following services: assessment and crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, referral and advocacy, and training and consultation with faculty and staff.

Solman is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Addictions Counselor through the Pennsylvania Certification Board. She earned her bachelor′s degree in Psychology and Business Administration from Grove City College and went on to earn her master′s degree in Counseling from Geneva College.
