Baltimore, MD - Early on Friday afternoon, the Geneva College women′s volleyball team took a walking tour of Camden Yards, the baseball home of the Baltimore Orioles. On Friday evening, the Golden Tornadoes pulled off a double play by taking a pair of matches on the first night of the Johns Hopkins University tournament. Geneva opened the evening with a convincing 3-0 win over DeSales by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-16. In the night cap, the Golden Tornadoes took care of the hosts by defeating Johns Hopkins 3-1 by scores of 27-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-14. The doubleheader sweep moved Geneva′s early season perfect record to 3-0.

In the win against DeSales, Geneva got a team best 11 kills from Baltimore native Rachel Kuegler. Freshman setter Deanna Briody posted an impressive 39 assists while Brianna Mixter came up with 11 digs. Maggie Bowersox had nine kills in the first match and then followed that with five kills and five blocks in the victory over Johns Hopkins.

Adriane Blake, who led the PAC in kills a year ago, came up with nine kills in the win over Johns Hopkins while still nursing a sore right shoulder. Briody finished the second match with 29 assists while Mixter had a team best 29 digs in the night cap.

Geneva will look for a perfect weekend when it battles Goucher College on Saturday at noon. The Golden Tornadoes return to Beaver Falls for the home opener on Wednesday night against Chatham.
