Steubenville, OH - The Geneva College men′s soccer team came within 37 seconds of handing new head coach Gary Dunda his first victory on Wednesday but a late goal resulted in a tie against Penn State Behrend. On Saturday there was no such drama as the Golden Tornadoes cruised to a 4-0 victory over Franciscan University.

After a somewhat sluggish start, Geneva drew first blood when Josh Mann tallied his first goal of the season off of a feed from Teddy Kryswiecki. "We didn′t have a particularly good start," said Dunda. "It took us a while to get going but I was very pleased with the way we finished the match."

David Gerlach extended the Geneva lead with six minutes remaining in the first half when he found the net on a set piece off of a corner kick that involved both Jeb Nash and Jesse Herman.

Geneva got both second half goals and controlled the field position and possession for 45 minutes. "The second half was much cleaner than the first," said Dunda. "We possessed the ball very well and it led to some outstanding offensive chances." Jake McCracken dribbled the ball into the net to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute and was followed by a goal from Kenton Burckhart in the 58th minute on a penalty kick. Kryswiecki was pulled down in the box leading to Burckhart′s tally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Biedenbach made three saves in registering his first collegiate shutout. Biedenbach has enjoyed an outstanding first week by allowing just one goal in 200 minutes of action.

Geneva returns home next Wednesday when it faces off against Point Park at Merriman Complex at 7 pm.
