Frostburg, MD - Geneva′s early season undefeated run in women′s volleyball continued in earnest on Friday evening with a pair of victories on the first day of the Frostburg State University tournament. The Golden Tornadoes opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Galluadet by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23 and then cruised to a 3-0 victory against Marietta by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-22. The doubleheader sweep improved Geneva′s overall record to 7-0 and sets the stage for an important day on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will meet Susquehanna on Saturday morning with a chance to advance to a tournament final for the second time in as many weeks following a victory at the Johns Hopkins tournament last Saturday.

The day started with Maryland native Rachel Kuegler again leading the offensive attack with 11 kills with Kristland McCracken coming off the bench to supply nine kills in the victory. Adriane Blake chipped in with seven kills and 27 digs. Brianna Mixter led the way in both assists with 15 and digs with 35. Trailing by two late in game four, Laura Zerbe managed to serve out the victory with five straight points to put an exclamation point on match number one.

The second match of the evening came a bit easier as Geneva cruised past Marietta in three straight games despite playing without freshman setter Deanna Briody, who was injured in the first game against Galluadet. Mixter again stepped in nicely with a team best 39 assists in the win while Paige Banyas took over the libero spot with 19 digs. At the net, Kuegler posted 12 kills with Blake hammering down ten and Maggie Bowersox chipping in with eight kills.
