Beaver Falls, PA - It was a scary combination for the Geneva College men′s soccer team on Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes were facing a winless, but scary opponent in LaRoche College and the Redhawks came ready to play and put the Golden Tornadoes′ backs against the wall in the first half. Sophomore Teddy Kryswiecki jump started the Geneva offense in the second half as the Golden Tornadoes erupted for a 5-1 victory over LaRoche. The win was Geneva′s third straight and helped improve its overall record to 5-1-1.

"We have to give LaRoche a ton of credit," said Geneva head coach Gary Dunda. "They had a great game plan and executed very well in the first half. We were truly tested tonight and fortunately we passed the test in the final 45 minutes." LaRoche picked up the only goal of the first half and the 0-7 Redhawks took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. It was 11 minutes into the second half when Kryswiecki raced down the right wing between a pair of LaRoche defenders and beat the goalkeeper for the tying goal. Five minutes later, Jeb Nash fed a ball across the goal mouth and Kryswiecki struck for his second goal of the game and the eventual game winner.

Geneva′s offense was far from done as it found the net three more times for a total of five second half goals to put the game away. Caleb Musselman scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute and Bruce Fox headed in a Jake McCracken pass less than a minute later. Garrett Masters closed out the scoring for the Golden Tornadoes with a goal in the 82nd minute. Goalkeeper Evan Biedenbach picked up his fifth win but was not tested much as the Redhawks registered only four shots in the match to Geneva′s dominating 28 shots toward the net.

"I felt we just needed to get that first goal to ease the pressure off the guys," said Dunda. "Teddy′s first goal was huge and I think at that point we all took a deep breath and were able to relax and play our game the rest of the way."

Geneva will travel to Marietta College on Saturday before returning home next Monday night to take on cross town rival Penn State Beaver at 7 pm.
