Beaver Falls, PA - When the Geneva College women′s volleyball team walked off the court at Frostburg State two weeks ago it knew a second chance was awaiting against the Bobcats. The Golden Tornadoes had just dropped their first match of the season in the championship match of the Frostburg State tournament. On Wednesday night, the Golden Tornadoes got a second chance against Frostburg State and they made it pay off. Geneva defeated Frostburg State 3-1 by game scores of 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 11-2 on the season while the Bobcats fell to 13-2 after having started the season with a school record 13 consecutive victories.

Geneva jumped all over Frostburg State with convincing victories in the first two games of the match. The Bobcats rallied back to take game three before a thrilling game four went Geneva′s way. With all the match momentum, Frostburg led by as many as five points in the fourth game, but Adriane Blake decided to take the match into her own hands with five kills in the final eight points to make the difference.

Geneva was not only looking forward to its match with Frostburg to enact some revenge, it was also anticipating the return of freshman setter Deanna Briody who has missed five matches with an ankle injury. The newcomer did not disappoint with a team best 44 assists to go along with 17 digs. Geneva′s defense was on display all night with a total of five players reaching double digit numbers in digs including a team best 22 digs from Adriane Blake. Blake was also the team leader with 14 kills with teammate Rachel Kuegler checking in with 13 kills.

Geneva also needed solid work at the net on defense and Kirsten Ley provided that spark with a career best seven blocks in the match. The Golden Tornadoes will remain at home this weekend when they battle a pair of PAC foes. Geneva welcomes Washington & Jefferson on Saturday morning at 11 am and will then host Saint Vincent at 3 pm.
