Beaver Falls, PA - It was far from a perfect night for soccer on College Hill Wednesday night, but the rain didn′t dampen the importance of Geneva′s women′s match against Thiel College. Coming back from a 6-1 loss on Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes made an early goal stand up as they held on for a 1-0 victory over the Tomcats. Geneva improved to 9-1-3 on the season as Thiel fell to 2-10.

Elise Mann may have to ice her leg down tonight as the sophomore forward fired a total of 11 shots, six of which were on goal. The only shot that truly mattered was her first one of the night. Taking a long lead pass in the second minute of the game, Mann capitalized on a breakaway to give Geneva a 1-0 lead. Little did anyone know at the time that that would be the end of the scoring and that goal would wind up being the game winner. Mann and her teammates peppered the Thiel goal for most of the night and outshot the Tomcats 29-4 for the match. Only for the stellar play of Thiel goalkeeper Jill Harry, who managed to stop 15 of the 16 shots on goal, were the Tomcats able to stay in the match.

Chance after chance for Geneva went by the waste side and with every missed opportunity, the game became a bit more intense. Thiel had one major scoring chance in the final minutes of the match but senior goalkeeper Lauren Londino was up for the task. Londino made two saves in picking up her eighth shutout of the season and career record 25th of her career.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Grove City on Friday for the first of four consecutive road matches before returning on October 23rd to play Chatham University.
