Grove City, PA - The Geneva College men′s soccer team has specialized in late game heroics in recent weeks in building its win streak to eight games. On Friday, it was the final seconds of the first half that ended up being the deciding factor in a 1-0 loss to Grove City that put an end to Geneva′s run. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 10-2-1 with the loss as the Wolverines improved to 8-3-2 with the one goal decision.

A match that looked headed into the half with neither team getting on the board quickly turned to Grove City′s favor when the Wolverines capitalized on a set piece with only six seconds remaining in the first half. Geneva managed only seven shots against Grove City for the game and came away its second loss and second shut-out against for the season. The Golden Tornadoes hadn′t dropped a match in almost a month since falling 2-0 to Mt. Union College.

Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Biedenbach made three saves as he was handed only his second loss of the season. Geneva′s offense, which has shown flashes of second half brilliance, was unable to comeback on this occasion. However, the trend of taking a while to get the offense going continued as Geneva was held scoreless in the first half for the fourth consecutive game. "We just were unable to respond today," said head coach Gary Dunda. "Our guys have been resilient all season but we just could not get much generated this afternoon."

Geneva continues its road swing next Wednesday at Bethany before visiting Washington & Jefferson next Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes have just one home game left in the season finale against Saint Vincent on October 30th.
