Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College volleyball team continues to inch closer to history with each victory. On Wednesday night, the Golden Tornadoes cruised past Waynesburg 3-0 with scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-8. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 22-4 moving it just one win shy of the single season record of 23 victories set in 1986. Geneva also improved to 7-0 on its home floor and is also a victory in the home finale next Thursday away from its first ever perfect home season.

The Golden Tornadoes made quick work of Waynesburg by taking game one without much resistance. The only drama came when freshman setter Deanna Briody went down midway through game one with an apparent head injury. Briody returned to action in game two with no ill-effects of the injury.

On the stat sheet, Adriane Blake led the way with 11 kills with Rachel Kuegler and Maggie Bowersox each chipping in with seven kills. Briody, despite missing the second half of game one, finished with a team best 25 assists and 13 digs. Brianna Mixter added 11 digs in the win.

The Golden Tornadoes combined for seven team aces including five aces in the second game alone to help hold off Waynesburg in the most competitive of the three games.

Geneva will now embark on its most challenging road trip of the season. The Golden Tornadoes travel to Thiel on Thursday before making the long trip to Thomas More on Saturday. The trip concludes at Saint Vincent next Tuesday night before heading back to Metheny Fieldhouse for the home finale next Thursday against Grove City.
