Greenville, PA - None of the current players on the Geneva College women′s volleyball team were born the last time a Golden Tornadoes team won 23 matches in a season. In fact, only once has that achievement taken place and that was during the 1986 season when Geneva finished the year with a record of 23-15. On Thursday night, the 2010 Geneva team matched that school record with a 3-1 victory over Thiel that pushed its overall record to 23-4. The Golden Tornadoes got past a very good Tomcats team by scores of 26-24, 26-28, 25-19, 25-21. Geneva has lost just once to a PAC opponent this year as it completed a season sweep against the Tomcats on Thursday night.
Two time NCCAA all-american Adriane Blake was had the top of her game on Thursday with a team best 24 kills to improve upon her conference leading numbers. She also picked up 20 digs and three blocks in the victory. Maggie Bowersox put together a solid match with 16 kills and a pair of blocks at the net. Teammate Rachel Kuegler chipped in with 14 kills and a team best four service aces. On defense, Brianna Mixter led the way with 31 digs. Freshman setter Deanna Briody was again unstoppable with 54 assists in just a four game match.
The Golden Tornadoes continue their very tough road stretch when they travel to Thomas More on Saturday followed by a trip to Saint Vincent next Tuesday night. Geneva will look to finish off an undefeated home schedule for the first time in school history next Thursday in the home finale against Grove City College at 7 pm.
