Beaver Falls, PA - On a day that ended with the Geneva College volleyball team setting a new school record for victories in a season, a trio of those Golden Tornadoes were honored in the afternoon with NCCAA All-East Region honors. With a victory on Tuesday night, the Golden Tornadoes improved to a record 24-5 on the season surpassing the old record of 23 wins set in 1986. Three of the main reasons for the success this season were featured on the NCCAA All-East Region team.

Two-time NCCAA All-American Adriane Blake was named to the All-Region first team for the third consecutive season. The PAC leader in kills with 3.82 per game, Blake will also end her incredible career as the all-time kills leader in Geneva College history. In addition to her 373 kills in 2010, Blake had 352 digs and 32 blocks in her senior campaign. While Blake is heading down the home stretch of her four-year career, freshman setter Deanna Briody is just getting started.

In her first season as Geneva′s setter, Briody has served as the glue that has kept the offense together. Leading Geneva and sitting second in the PAC in assists per game, Briody has a mark of 10.37 assists in her first collegiate campaign. She also has 23 service aces and 253 digs. For her efforts, Briody was also named a first team All-Region performer.

Briody was forced to miss nearly two weeks at the outset of the season because of an ankle injury. While she was healing on the sideline, Brianna Mixter moved from her more natural libero spot to take over as Geneva′s setter. While playing setter, she led Geneva to a 6-2 record and allowed the Golden Tornadoes to not miss a beat. Mixter is, however, more comfortable at libero with a team high 488 digs to go along with 22 service aces. She was named an East regional honorable mention selection for the first time in her career.

The Golden Tornadoes finished third at the east regional tournament and will close out their regular season this week with a home match against Grove City on Thursday and at Westminster on Saturday. Geneva will then have to wait two and a half weeks for word from the NCCAA as to whether it has done enough to warrant the school′s first ever NCCAA national tournament berth. "We feel like a national tournament team," said co-head coach Curt Conser. "We have enjoyed the best season in school history and it would be a real shame if this group, especially our seniors, doesn′t get a chance to showcase their talents on the national stage. Either way, we couldn′t be prouder of what they have all accomplished. We had three All-Region selections and in our opinion, we could have had at least three more."
