“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” This is the call that Jesus makes to all Christians in Matthew 28:19 and on Saturday, October 9, Geneva Colleges celebrates this Great Commission during Homecoming 2010. The theme for the day is “Into All the World” and many exciting activities are planned for all Geneva′s students –past, present and future.

Those who attend may see displays at the Into All the World” tent located on the McCartney Library lawn and learn how Geneva College has dedicated itself to transforming all nations for the Kingdom of Christ. Festivities at the Lawn by Old Main include: regional folk and blues music, Irish step dancers, a Ukrainian egg painter, Geneva′s own New Song, and more. Also, the entire community is invited to visit the College Hill Festival to browse vendor booths, and enjoy fair food and ethnic cuisine.

At Homecoming, Geneva welcomes those who may one day become students by providing campus tours conducted by the Office of Enrollment Services. For children whose college days are many years away, the “It′s a Small World” exhibit offers games, arts and crafts, face painting and a petting zoo.

Of course many events are planned throughout the day for Geneva′s alumni. The 25-year Reunion breakfast takes place at Alexander Hall for the class of 1985 and their families. Members of the classes of ′80, ′90, ′95, ′00 and ′05 are invited to join President Ken Smith at Alexander Hall for the Alumni Luncheon. Alumni can enjoy a time of fellowship with old friends followed by a campus update from Dr. Smith. In the afternoon, members of all these classes are invited to the Benedum Room to have their class photos taken.

Former members of the baseball team can recreate past highlights with the current team during the 11 a.m. Alumni reunion game.  A cookout will follow the game. “Golden” alumni, those ages 60 and over have the opportunity to renew old friendships at the Golden Tornado Reunion in the West Reading room of McCartney Library. Also the Alumni Band will perform at halftime of the Geneva Golden Tornado Football game.

The day concludes with the crowning of the 2010 Homecoming king and queen during the pre-game ceremony at Reeves Fled followed by the Homecoming football game at 4 p.m. Join the current student body to cheer on your Golden Tornadoes as they take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets.

The schedule for the day′s activities is at www.geneva.edu/homecoming for further information and to register for events.
