Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva men′s basketball team was chomping at the bit to get going in its new season. Waiting until Friday night to tip things off, the Golden Tornadoes were forced to wait a bit longer after the first game of the Geneva Tip-Off Tournament went into overtime. The wait was worth it for the Golden Tornadoes as they cruised to a 90-52 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny. With the victory, Geneva will meet Hiram College in Saturday′s championship game beginning at 3 pm. Penn State will meet Otterbein in the consolation final after the Cardinals dropped a hard fought decision in overtime in the tournament opener.

Geneva opened up the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. Bryan Hill and David Phillips each knocked down three point field goals in the early moments of the game to get things started. Geneva shot 52% from the field in the first 20 minutes taking a 48-22 lead into the locker room. Geneva′s 38 points victory was its largest lead of the night as the Lions never got the margin under 25 in the second half.

Geneva′s offensive attack featured four players in double figures led by Hill and Richard Colick, who each posted 15 points. Colick was honored prior to the game for becoming the 34th player in school history to reach the 1000 point plateau at the end of last year. Phillips finished the game with 13 points while Drew Santarsiero added 11 points off the bench. "We had a very nice balanced attack," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We executed our offense very well in the first half. We got a bit sloppy in the second half and still have much to work on as we move forward. It was a good way to start but we will have our work cut out on Saturday."

Geneva will meet a Hiram College team that has defeated the Golden Tornadoes in each of the past two seasons. Hiram comes into Saturday′s final with a 2-0 record on the young season.

Geneva knocked in ten three-point field goals on Friday night and shot a solid 39% from outside the arc. PSGA shot just 29% from the game and got a game leading 21 points from Jon Schmid on 8-15 shooting from the field.
