Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College head men′s basketball Jeff Santarsiero can barely contain himself when the Golden Tornadoes get into the win column. On Tuesday, Santarsiero′s club entered the winner′s circle for the third time without a loss in a 74-68 victory over Baldwin-Wallace. But one will have to forgive the 15th year head coach if the smile was a little wider on this night. Santarsiero′s son Drew stepped up to score a team high 17 points in a game that featured a break out night from the bench. "Our bench was huge for us," said Coach Santarsiero. "Drew played as well as I′ve seen him play and the rest of our bench really picked us up."

The Golden Tornadoes scored a total of 33 points on Tuesday night including Santarsiero′s 17. Richard Colick added 13 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. Bryan Hill added ten points and sits just eight points shy of the 1000 point plateau for his career. "There are going to be nights when our starters need some help and tonight was one of those nights," said Santarsiero.

"I think our guys really have learned how to close out games and that is a big difference between this year and last year." Geneva never trailed in the game and led by as many as 11 points in the second half. Baldwin-Wallace made a run midway through the second half and cut the lead to two points before Geneva got a big three point field from Dave Phillips and an offensive rebound put back from Santarsiero to extend the lead back to seven points.

The Yellow Jackets got a game high 20 points from Kyle Payne on 7-9 shooting from the field. Baldwin-Wallace managed just four three point field goals in 20 attempts and was held to just 36% shooting in the second half.

Geneva′s 3-0 start to the season is the best since the second year of head coach Jeff Santarsiero′s tenure back in 1997 when the Golden Tornadoes started 5-0. Geneva will put its 3-0 record on the line on Saturday when it goes away from home for the first time at LaRoche College. The Golden Tornadoes open PAC play next Wednesday night at 7:30 pm when they host Washington & Jefferson.
