Family Weekend 2010

The campus was packed this past weekend as 800 family members joined Geneva′s Family Weekend. Parents and siblings of current students poured in on Friday afternoon to participate in the fun-filled weekend. The event began with a family dinner at Alex′s and continued with performances of the Broadway Revue and the theater production, The Spitfire Grill. Students′ families also had the opportunity to meet President Ken Smith in the Brigadoon, play Family Feud and enjoy a movie showing of Toy Story 3 in Metheny Fieldhouse.

Saturday′s events included a prayer service led by Director of the Center for Faith and Practice Keith Martel, chapel service in Skye Lounge, family brunch, and repeat performances of the Broadway Revue and the Spitfire Grill.

“It′s been very nice. I attended the prayer service and chapel on Saturday morning. It′s always a privilege to be part of prayer. It would′ve been easy to sleep in, but you can′t miss out on an opportunity to pray corporately. And the speakers have been wonderful,” said Carol Finks, parent of Justin Finks.

The biggest event was the last football game of the season. The stadium was packed with students, families and fans as they cheered on the Golden Tornadoes. The team finished the season off strong by beating rival Westminster 30-24 in the third overtime.

“Home games at Reeves Field are second to none at this level of college football, and being able to play in front of a home crowd on Family Weekend really makes it that much better. This game in particular was one I′ll never forget. Triple OT, Gerard setting the rushing record–and the crowd was a part of the game from opening kickoff to final touchdown. The crowd was our twelfth man against Westminster,” says junior football player Danny Massaro.

Thank you to all the families who supported and made this year′s Family Weekend so successful.
