Beaver Falls, PA - While the athletic programs at Geneva College enjoyed another stellar season on the field and on the court, the Golden Tornadoes were once again hard at work in the classroom. In fact, a total of 15 student-athletes were honored this week by the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) for their outstanding academic performance.
The NCCAA recognizes juniors and seniors that maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA. Each student-athlete must also make a significant contribution within the athletic arena. Those recognized from Geneva College are members of the men′s soccer team, the women′s soccer, volleyball and cross country.
The Geneva men′s soccer team received the most awards with a total of five players honored as scholar-athletes. David Harwood, Josh Mann, Jake McCracken, Matt Weaver and Jeremy Peachey were all recognized. On the women′s side, Annissa Halulko, Ariel Lilly and Amanda Munsch each received consideration. Three members of Geneva′s record setting volleyball team were honored for academic excellence. Rachel Kuegler, Brianna Mixter and Laura Zerbe each qualified for honors.
In cross country, Sarah Davis and Julia Urbanski for the women, along with Nate Mansor and Ryan Thorn on the men′s side received scholar-athlete honors.
"We are so proud of our student-athletes and the work that is done in the classroom," said Geneva College athletic director Dr. Kim Gall. "These awards are a product of hard work and dedication in and out of the classroom. Education is our number one priority at Geneva and these student-athletes are clearly at the head of the class."
