Geneva hosted the annual Film Fest to showcase and honor student-made films on Friday, December 3, 2010. Students attended the event in formal attire and were treated to a wonderful night of cinema.

"I think it′s great. Everyone gets out here and gets dressed up. You get to see film work students have been doing throughout the semester, whether it′s for class or for fun," says senior Seth Kuhns. Seth had a lead role in Marshal Miller′s film Courtship: A Marshal Miller Story, which takes viewers through the life and times of Marshal′s dating experiences.

Students texted their vote for favorite movie and the People′s Choice Award for Best Film went to Courtship: A Marshal Miller Story. Made to be a comedy, Courtship ultimately became a movie that included a whole range of emotions. "I started to write a love story, but more about people being patient in love," says Marshal. "Often you see people rushing to find love, which is where we get the ‘ring by spring′ syndrome; but the truth is love finds you and you can do nothing to rush it."

Awards were given in a variety of other categories as well. Jesse Lambert, who directed Geneva Longboarding, received the award for Best Director. Best Actor/Actress went to Joe Grondziowski for his work in the film My Neanderthal and Daniel Favand won Best Original Score for difaterwch. Micah Taylor′s work on Robot Week earned him Best Special Effects and Best Screenplay was awarded to Emily Shilts for Pork Lord.

Junior Colin Savage, who starred in Geneva Longboarding with his friends says, "It took a lot of time and effort, but it′s awesome because longboarding is my passion and I had a great time doing it with my friends."

"I was very impressed this year. The students did a great job and the most impressive part was the quality of the videos which was really encouraging for us as a staff", says Ryan Holt, Director of Student Programs and Leadership.
