Beaver Falls, PA - The Westminster College women′s basketball team opened its game against Geneva on Saturday afternoon by missing its first seven free throws. Apparently, the Titans were waiting until the foul shots really mattered. Westminster connected on 18 of its last 19 free throws in the second half to secure a 62-50 victory over Geneva. The loss left the Golden Tornadoes sitting at 7-8 for the season while Westminster improved to 4-12.

It took Geneva eight minutes to register its first field goal of the game as Westminster opened the contest with the first six points. The Golden Tornadoes managed to rally back despite connecting on just six first half field goals to send the game into the halftime break tied at 24. "We were feeling pretty good about things," said head coach Renee Drake. "We shot 26% from the field in the first half and we were tied on our home floor. We had every reason to believe things would turn for us in the second half." Things did begin to turn as Geneva led by as many as five points on two separate occasions, but Westminster would not be denied. In fact, the Titans scored 14 of the game′s final 16 points, 12 of which came from the foul line in the final five minutes.

"We just didn′t execute on offense and they were able to take advantage of some miscues on defense. All we can do is keep working hard and trying to improve with every practice and every game."

Geneva got 13 points from Beth DeLuca while Alyse Scarsella scored eight points and added a team best nine rebounds. Westminster got 14 points from Emily Dolsak including a perfect 6-6 from the foul line in the second half.

Geneva will look to get on track on Wednesday when it travels to Waynesburg. Next Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes will visit Washington & Jefferson before returning home on January 26th to face Thiel.
