Bethany, WV - Sometimes it may feel as though a team must hit rock bottom before it can make its way back to the top. After Wednesday night′s heartbreaking loss to Thiel, the Golden Tornadoes were hovering near the bottom of that rock. On Saturday, Geneva put that agony on hold as it put an end to its five-game losing streak with an impressive 82-70 victory over Bethany College. The win pushed Geneva′s record to 8-11 while the Bison dropped to 9-10.

"It makes some of the pain of Wednesday′s loss go away," said head coach Renee Drake. "Sometimes losing a game the way we did on Wednesday can bring a team together and I think we got some of that today." Geneva lost to Thiel on Wednesday after it was assessed a bench technical with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation following a game tying shot. Despite that heartache, the Golden Tornadoes put their shooting shoes on for the Bethany game and came out firing.

Geneva shot 57% from the floor for the game (33-58) despite only a 1-7 effort from long range. "We were able to get good looks at the basket and didn′t have to rely on our three-point shooting," said Drake. The Golden Tornadoes, who trailed by three at the half, stretched their own lead to double digits down the stretch. A balanced scoring attack led by 21 points from Christine Carugati was the theme of the day. Valerie Hamilton and Alyse Scarsella each posted 17 points while Beth DeLuca added 11 points in the victory. "It was great to see our hard work on the offensive end of the floor pay off with a victory. If we are consistent on offense, it is a whole different ball game."

The Golden Tornadoes were able to avenge an eight point loss to the Bison in early December as Saturday′s victory marked the first win on the road for Geneva since defeating Chatham on January 8th.

Geneva will head to Kentucky on Wednesday to face NCAA Division I top ranked Thomas More before returning home next Saturday to face nationally ranked Saint Vincent College.
