Chapel at Geneva College is every Wednesday at 10:10 a.m.

The speakers invited to come to Geneva this spring continue the 2010-11 chapel theme, "You Gotta Serve Somebody." Chapel coordinator Dr. Dean Smith says, "Our hope is that during the course of the year, the various speakers will help us identify our idols so that we can confess them and have Jesus replace them."

Chapel is a weekly devotional time that provides an opportunity for everyone on campus-students, faculty and staff- to gather to praise God and engage in Christian fellowship. It is held each Wednesday in the Metheny Fieldhouse from 10:10-11 a.m. Geneva schedules 14 chapel gatherings and one academic convocation each semester. Students are required to attend 11 of these events and all in the campus community are encouraged to participate.

Upcoming speakers include current Geneva students, professors and nationally-known speakers like Nicole Bromley, author of Hush and founder of OneVoice Enterprises-an organization dedicated to bringing healing change into the lives of victims of sexual abuse. Nicole shares her own life story to inspire hope, raise awareness and empower people to make a difference.

Director of Diversity Laura Carpenter speaks in chapel as part of Geneva′s Martin Luther King, Jr. Week. In her role at Madison Square Church in Michigan, Laura seeks to build "a community of diverse people…by celebrating our diversity, building racially reconciling relationships and working together to understand and dismantle institutional racism."

Gabe Lyons, author of The Next Christians and founder of Q-a learning community that seeks to educate Christians on their responsibility to renew culture-is visiting the campus in March. His work regarding the new generation of Christians and their role in culture has been featured by CNN, the New York Times, Fox News and more.

Other speakers this semester include Reverend Rick Armstrong and Dr. Jerry Root. Rev. Armstrong presents the topic "The Ministry of the Church and Racial Healing." Dr. Root is an associate professor at Wheaton College and an international speaker who has lectured or preached in a number of countries including Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Ukraine.
