Alumni panel at Student and Alumni Networking Event

The Student and Alumni Networking Event hosted by Geneva College earlier this month was attended by approximately 35 students, two faculty chairs and 14 alumni who participated as panel or table hosts representing the fields of education, biology, engineering, business and communications. Director of Alumni Relations Becky Phillips said the response of participants was so positive that she hopes this will become an annual event.

"I thought the event was very enlightening and encouraging," said junior business major Melodie Michaelson. "Networking is very important, especially in the business world, and I learned a lot of quality information about furthering my opportunities both now and once I graduate."

Students who attended the Student and Alumni Networking Event had the opportunity to meet and speak with Geneva graduates who are accomplished in their fields of study. The event consisted of a dinner, a presentation of networking strategies for students and a question-and-answer panel discussion. The evening was scheduled to end with a 30-minute networking session; however, many alumni and students were still having conversations nearly an hour-and-a-half after the session concluded.

"The alumni who participated were articulate, spoke very highly of their education at Geneva and had great suggestions for the students as they look for jobs and internships," said Phillips. "I want to commend the alumni relations and career development staff. The collaboration benefitted both alumni and students alike."
