Marion, IN - Geneva College sent 13 student-athletes to the NCCAA Indoor National track and field meet on Saturday. Both the men′s and women′s teams finished the day with 11 points in the overall standings, but it was the individual performances that included six top ten finishes that highlighted the day.
In men′s action, Tyler French brought home the highest finish of the day with a fourth place spot in the shot put. With a finishing distance of 46-04, French finished less than two feet behind the second place finisher. Teammate Dan Dillman finished in 17th position with a distance of 42-02. The men′s 4 x 200 relay team comprised of Ryan White, Wes Marquis, Stephen Polite and Corey Fraction finished in ninth position with a time of 1:36.55.
Julia Urbanski had the best day of any Geneva athlete as she brought home a pair of sixth place finishes. Urbanski turned in a time of 5:24.20 in the one mile run and then finished sixth in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:24.94. Aisha Moore also competed in a pair of events with her best finish coming in the triple jump. Moore′s distance of 33-4.75 was good enough for tenth place. Finally, it was freshman Kathryn Regalado′s first national championship appearance and she certainly didn′t disappoint anyone. She finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 38-04.75.
"This was a great experience for our student-athletes," said head coach Brian Yowler. "We know there is still much to be done in our program but it was nice to put a cap on the indoor season with some very positive results against the best competition in the country."
The outdoor track and field season is set to open on March 19th with a trip to Muskingum College.
