The Genevans choir

The Genevans will begin their annual spring break tour on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 with a concert at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh, PA at 7:30 p.m. This year, the choir will be touring the Midwest, visiting churches and schools in Ohio, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Iowa and Indiana.

The theme for the 2011 tour is "Sing for Joy!" Sacred and secular music will be performed, ranging from the Renaissance to the contemporary and including folk-songs, spirituals and hymns, and Russian church music. The Genevans will also feature settings of the biblical Psalms in a variety of musical styles centering on Psalm 81:1. Composers represented in the program include Alessandro Scarlatti, Zoltán Kodály, and Francis Poulenc. John Tavener′s beloved setting of William Blake′s poem "The Lamb" is featured, along with his "Song for Athene." A section of the program is devoted to music of western America, honoring the places that the choir will visit.

"The Genevans are all about ministering to people through many kinds of music. Music is God's gift, and when we sing, we feel His pleasure. Tours such as this let us reach a lot more people with the message of music," says Dr. Robert Copeland, director of the Genevans

The Genevans annually tour parts of North America, and travel to Europe every four years. Their 2010 international tour was of the United Kingdom. Previous tours have taken them also to France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and Cyprus, earning them acclaim and many return invitations.
