President Kenneth A. Smith and his wife at the President's Ball.In honor of President Ken Smith′s birthday, approximately 350 students, faculty and staff members gathered to attend the inaugural President′s Ball last week in Metheny Fieldhouse. The event was sponsored by Student Activities.

"Student Activities really wanted to add another formal event into the schedule, because Film Fest has always been the main formal event." said Laura Pinkerton, a member of Student Activities. "So we decided we would throw a party for the President to bring the faculty, staff and students at Geneva together as community."

Guests of the birthday party were encouraged to dress formally and everyone celebrated the evening with birthday cake and a chocolate fountain. Members of the Geneva Jazz Band provided musical selections for entertainment. "I wasn't sure what to expect when I went, but I had a really great time," said junior communication major Caleb Musselman. "The music was awesome, and the food was fantastic."

Dancing was even part of the celebration, with the electric slide and the cha cha slide. "Students were really excited to dance," says junior communication major Ji Yun Bae. "The atmosphere was very energetic and fun; students definitely enjoyed themselves."

Students were not the only ones who appreciated the evening. "I enjoyed the event and was flattered by the turnout," says President Smith. "It was, no doubt, the biggest birthday party ever thrown in my honor. Even if it was just an excuse to get dressed up, it was a good excuse- and everyone looked great. My compliments and thanks to the organizers, the jazz combo and the attendees."
