Kissimmee, FL - When the Geneva College softball team took the field on Wednesday it went up against a pair of teams that hadn′t suffered a loss in 2011. At the end of the day, each had been handed that initial loss of the season. The Golden Tornadoes opened the day with a 6-3 victory over Catholic University before holding off Bluffton by the score of 3-2. Geneva has now won four straight and improved to 4-2 on the season.

Geneva got off and running early with five runs in the bottom of the first inning against Catholic. An Ashley Davis RBI double followed by a run scoring single from Leanne Abate was followed with a two-run triple from Samantha Bautista. The first six Geneva batters all reached base. Martha Adams knocked in the six the run with an RBI double in the second inning. Julie DiLonardo picked up the win in allowing just two earned runs on eight hits in the complete game victory. Adams and Leah Prisuta each had two hits in the victory.

The Golden Tornadoes built a 3-0 lead in the night cap with a run in the third and two more in the fourth inning. That was enough for Ariel Lilly and DiLonardo in the circle. Lilly pitched four innings and did not allow an earned run in grabbing her first victory of the season. DiLonardo threw three scoreless innings of relief in earning her first save of the year. Christina Fuqua′s RBI double in the third opened the scoring before an Anjelica Marsh RBI single and an Adam′s bases loaded walk closed out the scoring. Bautista and Marsh each had two hits in leading the ten hit attack.

Following an off day on Thursday, Geneva will face Mt. Union and Ursinus on Friday morning.
